Cafe Kong Competition: Fantastic Contraption

Just for fun, I've decided to open another competition, this time for Fantastic Contraption. I just made this up on the spot, so we'll see how it goes.

This is all to do with the level "The Wall". To enter, all you have to do is somehow give me the link to your contraption. If you win, you get brownie points. And so forth. The challenges are as follows:

1. Completed with the least number of pieces - In the event of a tie, person who submitted their contraption first wins
2. Completed without knocking over any block of the wall (By Vote) - You may not use a catapult to propel the goal object over the wall; c'mon, make it interesting :D
3. Most interesting design. (By Vote) - It must complete the level

TWO Major things. It's epic

Hello Cafe Kongers! Been a while since there's been a post so Mike is here bringing you not one but TWO major events

Firstly, I've decided that due to the ever-growing number of people with Wii's there will be an inaugral Super Smash Bro's Brawl Cafe Kong tourney! Everyone who has a copy of this game and a Wi-Fi connection can take part, although it will be open exclusively to people in Cafe Kong. The rules will be simple: Best of 3 matches, up to 4 people in a match (depending on numbers) and the top 2 progress in each match. I'll see what I can do but the winner will get an awesome prize. A cookie or something

Cafe Kong Kongai Tornament

So, I was thinking of what to write for my newest post since my 5 weeks away from Kong. I was in Digg Mark 1 (ironic right?) and chitown15 (its owner) was commenting how this blog has only 27 posts, while the DM1 blog, created a few days ago, has around 10 posts. I felt like I needed to make another post to make it 28 posts. I thought for a moment, told DM1 that I was thinking about stuff to write for the blog, and an idea hit me. Lets make me a Cafe Kong Kongai Tournament!
It will be be 3 card or 5 card, I will let the competiters decide. Single elimination, hopefully able to get 16 or 32 people. Comment below, leave your vote (3 or 5 card), and Kongregate name. Seeds will be placed randomely, and it is up to the two people facing each other to play at a certain point in time, and leave me a shout (physcomonkey) on who won and who lost. Hopefully somebody with some leverge could get an admin to award points for the 1st 2nd and 3rd place. Tournament starts when we get 16 or 32 people sign up, depends on how long it takes 16 people to sign up. Sign up!

The epic pwning of DeFeo222

It was a boring day at the Cafe. Fabricant and MikeChilds were bored. DeFeo2222 had arrived. Thinking that he would be an awesome Mod, he asked a Mod in the room to recommend him. The Mod said "no". Confused, DeFeo2222 began to explain why he would be such a good Mod for the room. Unimpressed, the Mod reminded him that asking to become a Mod will result in a "no".

MikeChilds, witnessing the incidence, thought of an evil plan. "I shall Rick-Roll this poor soul" he thought as he typed away to DeFeo. "Hey" said Mike. "I heard you wanted to become a Mod. I know the secret to become a Mod". Happy with the news, DeFeo replied "yes wat". "www.bringvictory.com - it's a guide by a former mod who lets you know all the secrets" said Mike as he grinned to himself. A few short moments passed. DeFeo had watched the video. "MIKECHILDS" he screamed in anger. MikeChilds laughed. "You have to watch the video. When you do, a button appears. When you click on it, it takes you to the site". Many Rick-Rolls later, DeFeo still did not understand. He tried everything MikeChilds told him to do. Watch the video. Look at more Rick Roll videos and find a "secret button". Watch them again. It was brilliant

Angered by this, DeFeo threatened Mike to tell him the secret. He even made an alt account called IWORK. On this account, he claimed to be a secret Mod and demanded Mike to tell him to the secret. Mike did not want to tell the "secret". He threatened bans, but Mike would not break. The joke has been going on for 15 minutes now. DeFeo was determined to get this "secret" so he challenged Mike to a race in Platform Racing 2. It was an epic battle full of fail. As planned, Mike lost at the end. Mike had to tell DeFeo the "secret". Mike sighed. "The secret is..." whispered Mike. "what" said DeFeo.

"Everybody laugh at DeFeo2222" delcared Mike to the Cafe. Unfortunately, they did not laugh. "A DEAL IS A DEAL ISNT" yelled DeFeo, who was soon told to turn caps off. Fabricant then acted as if he did not know what was going on. DeFeo begged Fabricant to ban MikeChilds. "Why?" asked Fabricant. DeFeo began to explain that MikeChilds knew a site that turned people into Mods. He provided the link. "This is very serious..." said Fabricant. The room went silent. "SERIOUS BUSINESS! The Internet is not a truck! It's a series of tubes!" yelled Fabricant. DeFeo was confused. "ban mikechilds" he said. Some members of the Cafe were laughing at poor DeFeo's guillibility. Others were confused. MikeChilds began to tell the story. Every Cafe Kong members began to laugh with the exception of a few who think Rick Rolling is stupid. DeFeo left the room. The humiliation was too much to handle.

Around 8 hours after the joke, DeFeo came into Feed The Ducks. He called the Mods and told them to ban MikeChilds. When asked why, he told them about the apparent site that turns people into Mods. People laughed, but it was serious business still. If you see DeFeo still talking about this site that turns people into Mods, please take a screenshot and post it in the comments.

This has been a long story created by Fabricant. Thank you for reading and no thank you if you TL;DR'd it.

Just offering congratulations to the two newest mods to come from the Cafe, TheCrom and Sakuya. TheCrom has been a great member of the Cafe for a while, representing England and fully deserving of the big M. Sakuya is a fiesty American who'll be sure to kick the trolls where the sun don't shine.

Yes, I neglected to use alliteration due to the whole kkk thing. Anyway, so here's time for a little experiment. How about a little competition between us Cafe Kongers?

The first challenge is to create the most humorous image from the game: Arcane. You may use anything within the game you want, however the rules are as follows:
-You must use a screen capture from Arcane, by Hadar1989
-You may not edit the image so it is recognizably Arcane, but you may crop and add things, like, say, donuts or captions and so forth.

Your prize is yet to be announced. And by that, I mean it hasn't been decided. But your name will go down in the Cafe Kong Hall of Fame!

Well, I'm not quite sure what to say. I'll start by thanking Val for her kind words and trust, albeit far too late. Thank you, Val. I'll do my best. And to those of you who miss Val, don't worry; I'll make sure she keeps her promise and visits us often. ;)

Anyway, I know quite a few of you Café-ers and I hope to meet you all in the not-too-distant future. Together we can make the greatest room Kongregate has ever known, and we've already started!

Although several of our resident mods have left, due to being granted their own room (GenX and Butterfly623; make sure to visit them, too, in Difference Engine and The Garden), we're lucky enough to have another new mod, fresh off the printing press. So make sure you all congratulate Kyru (he may be quiet, but if you bombard him with hugs I'm sure he'll respond).
But The Café won't need too much moderation; after all, we are brilliant.

So, any ideas for the blog, please comment and hopefully I'll be meeting you all soon ^^

Fresh new Cafe Kong!

As you would all have noticed, the Cafe is in the hands of a new owner; Venzael. Please give him a rousing Cafe style welcome. Venzael brings to the Cafe a fresh new perspective and younger and more vibrant ambiance. It is a sign of great times ahead. I am sure that the Café will continue to grow and will be the defining room of Kongregate’s ethos.

So lets all have a party. A party where we celebrate the new and improved Café.

Before you ask.. No .. I did not abandon Cafe Kong.
One of the reasons I was made a mod was my involvement in rooms that were not very popular or populated, and engage the users there, encouraging them to interact. It has been an ongoing process.

But the more relevant reason for the ownership change is that I believe in the current team at the Cafe. Butterfly623, Nadroj09, Stefan88, PTGmach, Thalarion, Genx (to name a few) and the resident quasi mod.. Doctormarmalade, are capable of maintaining the pleasant ambience of the Cafe. So I feel that I am leaving my baby in safe hands. It is a teary situation.. but I cannot ask for a more dependable team to take care of what I hold so dear to me. If in real life I am asked to put together a team on which my life would depend, without hesitation these would be the names that come to my mind. I have a very close and personal relationship with every one of you. Some of you have defined and reshaped my real life in ways that you cannot even begin to comprehend. Specially Butterfly623. If it was not for her support I might have been committed to the institution of the insane or might have received my last blessings.

Venzael is going to make this room proud. With your support, the room is going to be the biggest room in all of Kongregate. Just watch.

On particular e-mail screamed at me.. "Why Venzael? What about Seniority? What are the other mods; Chopped Liver?"
Well, it helps to remember that the room owners are still a lot lower than the Admins who decide a majority of things like who should own a room. And there are no “Senior” mods. I was asked my opinion and I offered several suggestions, but it finally boiled down to Venzael who I feel is the same caliber of the Café regulars and fits the same “gentle and calm” mod ambience that we expect at the café. There have been some names that I have rejected, even to the point of stating that I would hand in my moderator privileges if they were made the room owners. There was a lot of discussion behind the scenes. This has been a month long process.

So yes.. essentially Venzael was my choice, but it was a choice that does not belittle any of the current moderators of Café Kong, rather seeks to complement them.

As I said before all of the mods in the Cafe are as close to me as I can ever hope in real life so I do not play favorites nor let my personal relationships with other influence my decision.

So now what?
Well I will be in the café as often as I can, while I try my best to make Valhala, The Hall of Odin a worthy competitor to Café Kong. The plans for the website are still active. I will be working very closely with all of Café Kong and The Gibson on several things that we have been discussing. I will try and get The Hall to participate and interact with the café in several things such as contests and such.

Now, I also try to stabilize my life a little bit, earn a living and get back some of my lost dignity.

Moderators Appreciation Week.

Lately I have received a lot of mail asking me what makes Cafe Kong Special. My response has always been that it is the people who make it special. My belief is "It takes good people to bring out the goodness in you". So Cafe Kong if the best place on Kongregate because it has the best people.

I would like to add to that statement. If Cafe Kong is so special, equal appreciation has to go to the Moderators as well. This is one place that mods do not come down harsh and there has been no random acts of vengeance. The moderators here are known for their patience, understanding, tolerance and a whole lot more. (Well meisme's nomination has drawn some flak. But do give her a chance). Some of the mods in the Cafe let people get away with things which would have earned them permanent bans from some of the mods from other rooms. I am so glad that we are not running things like Bouncers or Gestapo. This is a fun place. A happy place where you can have a civil conversation with your friends. And the mods let you relax and unwind.

I have had the pleasure of seeing(for a fleeting few moments) one of the best analyst and strategist in the field of Internet, web and web communities, during an interview; Jeremiah Owyang. His thoughts have mirrored mine.

He Says "First of all, many have a hard time being successful with their community if they want to control it too tight. The most successful companies let go of the control and acted more like a host, rather than a policeman."(Edited for clarity)

And that got me thinking; "That is what we do at the cafe... we do not police.. we host". And that is what makes us different. So this week, I would like to make it Mod Appreciation Week, while we show our appreciation of Moderators at Cafe Kong.

That brings me to a different point. Some have e-mailed me saying that they are disappointed that they have not been considered as Moderator Candidates, and some have even said that I am playing favourites. I am really sorry to hear that. There has been no favouritism or discredit to any of the deserving candidates. Two of the existing moderators can confirm that before I nominated them, I have had very personal and bitter conflicts with them. That did not stop me from giving credit where it is due, and recommending them for the Moderator's role.

Several names HAD been recommended. Of them several had been vetoed (for various reasons). And some have been set aside for the next round of appointments. It is not within my power to appoint moderators. Don't lose heart. If you are deserving, you will get it. The new system of moderating is described here by Greg.

New Mods

Well, today, Genx and Thalarion, among others became a mod today. This brings ...um... a LOT of mods that frequent the cafe. Valkyrie, Nadroj09, DingoEatingFuzz, PTGMach, Stefan88, Takumashii, WilliamWilson. Once we had eight mods in the Cafe.
*goes off in a trance*
Anyway, congrats to them(Thalarion and Genx) on becoming a mod.

Hello beloved members of the Cafe.

I am so happy that I am literally crying now. I owe a debt of gratitude to several people. Some call me insane. I might be. But I babble.

The reason for my happiness; for a while now the cafekong mini city was almost in ruins. It has been brought back from the brink of a disaster. And I really owe a lot to several people. McCoyEVP, Nadroj09, Kikkerman, Stefan88, MeMe44 are among a few to name.

We shall remain strong. And the coffee will always overflow in cafe-kong.myminicity.com.

Sob stuff aside, I have been toying around with the idea of the cafekong website. What is it that you would like to see most in the cafekong website? Any suggestions on the design and concept that we can follow? I am open to ideas and suggestions. A list of features that you want there, how you want it. If there are any considrations for joomla or drupal or something like that, let me know.

I have been considering the option of purchasing something called Dolphin. Any ideas on that? It costs about a hundred dollars, but that does away with the need to program a lot of stuff. I have also been considering the option of a Wiki. That could be some potent stuff. So.. think this over. Since this is going to be your site, I need your input. Aw, I am actually out of ideas so PLEASE POST IDEAS

Anyways, as some of you may know, I currently making a Cafe Kong themed pinball game. This pinball, when finished, will feature some real people (with permission of course) who will be immortalized by being put into the actual game, as well as a "Who Is It" page.If you think that you may be able to help me out somehow, please email me at Cooldragon_23@hotmail.com. I will post sneak peaks (and a last updated so you know if there's a new one) here, so make sure that you constantly check the blog. Also, I know that the game is still very buggy, so don't bug me about how buggy it is. I am working on those! Feel free to post any ideas that you may have

Quick note - the blue men shown at the top are only temporary. When I finish they will be remakes of real people. Also, the game WILL feature lives and a plunger, only I haven't added them yet, so I just have the ball teleport if you die.

Good news for the Cafe' blog. We have a new writer im town. His name is physcomonkeykid. So there may be a change in the writing style of a few of the posts. Do not worry, as all of my (physcomonkeykid)'s posts will have PMK at the end, and if valkyrie complies, all of her posts will have val at the end.

We may be having a new website soon, complete with updates, comments, a photo gallery of our members (if that doest seem too creepy) and possibly a forum.

Hello All.

I had been out of action for a while, and due to several reasons I have not been able to spend a lot of time on Kongregate. A lot has happened in the mean while.

There have been several people who have approached me to nominate them for a moderator's status. And a few have asked me about being a room owner. (That does not disqualify them in my books)

Well, one of the new changes being contemplated in Kongregate is the way the site is to be moderated. The Site owners and the community manager have been contemplating to Democratize Kongregate a lot further by implementing new moderating methods. While these are still being contemplated, the implications are that no new mods will be appointed for a while. And the position of the room owner might be abolished (Who among us needs to be lorded over any way eh?).

The proposed changes will mean that several of you will be able to achieve your desires. Maybe not become a room owner, but something better perhaps.

Hello All.

There was a time when The Good People or Barrens contested the Players of Jugon in an inter room contest. It was hard work but fun.

To give a brief description, there were three rounds. An elimination round, a Selection round and a trophy round.

Would anyone be interested in such a contest now? Probably against The Attic or League of Gamers.

I am open to ideas and suggestions. Suggest games, names, offer help or what ever. This could perhaps be an excuse to start using this blog a bit better.

Hello All.

The Cafe Kong chat room has grown well and continues to grow day by day. And the cafe-kong mincity has become an Icon of team work. I appreciate all of you who involve themselves in Cafe Kong. Thank you all.

I would like some suggestions on fostering a good community and developing a sense of belonging at the cafe kong chat room in Kongregate. Please do come up with some ideas.

Greetings Cafe regulars.

The Cafe-kong minicity has grown very quickly. I sincerely wish to thank each and every one of you. It does mean a lot to me.
